LIFT EVERY VOICE FOR CHILDREN!
This year, Children’s Defense Fund-Ohio hosted Lift Every Voice for Children, our annual fundraiser. This event helped us to increase awareness about the critical issues affecting Ohio’s children and to build support for the work that CDF-Ohio does in addressing these crucial needs. The 2020 program, Lift Every Voice for Children provided an opportunity to share our accomplishments of the past year, to hear directly from Ohio youth, and to chart a path together towards a brighter future where all children can thrive and flourish as they transition successfully into adulthood.
The Children’s Defense Fund-Ohio has served Ohio’s most vulnerable children and families for nearly 40 years. We accomplish this through data, research, policy, and advocacy work, but our success is only possible with your support.
We appreciate you for joining us for this evening of celebration and inspiration. We hope you learned more about how Ohio’s children are faring during these difficult and unprecedented times. We also hope you drew inspiration from the moving and heartfelt stories from some of Ohio’s young adults.
Our successes and ongoing work include:
Advocating for additional enhanced Medicaid funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program – as more Ohioans lose employment and with it their health insurance, we must make sure this lifeline is available to keep our children healthy.
Working with Ohio agencies to apply for and implement the Pandemic-EBT program, providing all children in Ohio, who receive free and reduced price lunches at school, additional nutrition support, helping families and their local economies.
Supporting children transitioning out of foster care by advocating for extended benefits and services for youth aging out of care until the pandemic and fiscal crises are over.
Urging Ohio’s federal representatives to secure increased resources to Ohio’s child care providers, teachers, and families making sure children have quality care allowing parents to return to work with peace of mind knowing that their children are safe.
It is important that we have an opportunity to share the good work we’ve been leading and engaged in this year, especially our work focused on dismantling systemic racism in our child serving systems and throughout our society today as well as our policy and advocacy work directly related to the Covid-19 pandemic. This year’s event featured talented Ohio youth who use their voice to share their experiences and passionate commitment to protect the dignity of all children in our community.
